Trustees Wanted!

The Rising Stars charity began as a social outreach basketball programme in collaboration with the Glasgow University (GU) Men & Women’s basketball teams in 2018. Back then, the GU programme delivered weekly basketball sessions to eight primary schools in the Govan cluster in Glasgow. As the programme developed, different elements were layered onto the programme including university trips, provision of equipment to schools through fundraising efforts and semesterly tournaments. The programme then began to include private tuition for pupils who were less academically inclined through a partnership with Volunteer Tutor Organisation. This was done via online 1-1 sessions between a pupil and trained volunteer via zoom or another online platform. In September 2021, The Rising Stars came to be what it is now, becoming a formally registered charity with the Scottish Charity Regulator under the number SCO51264. As our charity has grown, we are now looking to recruit new trustees to our board! What we are looking for are trustees that are passionate about helping children and young people, and are passionate about using sport as a vehicle to do so! You do not need to have a specific grounding in the sport of basketball so long as you are able/willing to learn and connect with various stakeholders. To be transparent, new trustees may be asked to take on responsibilities in a few key roles within the organisation in 2023/24 Social Media / Marketing / General Media (Role)Implementation of our programme in a new area (Role)Facilitate Tournaments and Club Development for Young Players (Role) If you are interested, please send a cover letter and CV to by closing date of April 8th 9am. Interviews will be conducted in the following 1-2 weeks.
